During the 20th annual Coastal Bend GIS Day, participants will discover the world of possibilities through GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology. This year’s Coastal Bend GIS Day, “The Science of Where,” features opportunities to learn more about GIS applications and to see their use in action. GIS technology touches everyone’s lives daily to solve problems related to areas such as the environment, health care, land use, business efficiency, education and public safety. Scheduled during the National Geographic Society’s Geography Awareness Week, which is Nov. 12-16 and includes GIS Day activities around the globe, the 2018 Coastal Bend GIS Day is designed to build “GIS Awareness” among students and educators in 6th through 12th grades and higher education. The free co-hosted event is sponsored by Del Mar College, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Coastal Bend College, Laredo Community College, the Lone Star UAS Center of Excellence & Innovation, the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Technology Educational Consortium (UASTEC) and the DMC Small Business Development Center.
