Russian Pianist Yury Martinov Returns to Del Mar College

Russian pianist Yury Martinov, a master keyboardist who is internationally renowned for his versatile repertoire, returns to perform at Del Mar College. Sponsored by the College’s Music Department, Martinov’s repertoires run from baroque to 20th Century pieces played on modern piano, harpsichord, clavichord and pianoforte, which is an 18th century predecessor to the modern piano. The pianist serves as chair of the Department of Keyboard Instruments and of Chamber Music Ensembles of the Department of Historical and Contemporary Performance Art at Moscow “P.I. Tchakovsky” Conservatory. Martinov’s artistry and technical excellence has earned the pianist numerous first place prizes in some of the most prestigious piano competitions in Europe. His awards include First Prize at the 1991 Maria Canals competition in Spain, the 1993 Ennio Porrino competition in Italy and the 1999 W.A. Mozart Competition in Salzburg, Austria. The program will include Fantasia in d minor by Mozart, Rondeau Op.1 & 4 and Mazurkas Op. 30 by Chopin, Tchaikovsky Seasons (April, November, December), Prelude & Fugue in d minor by Shostakovich and Symphonic Etudes Op.13 & Op. Posth by Schumann.
