Poetry Reading by Del Mar College and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Faculty
Del Mar College’s reference librarian Alan Berecka joins guest poets Robin Carstensen and Tom Murphy from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi for a poetry reading from their newly published books. Berecka’s newest book, The Hamlet of Stittville (Tale Feather’s Press, A subsidiary of Village Press Books) is a collaboration with his childhood friend and cartoonist John Klossner. The book’s title comes from the unincorporated dot on the map in Marcy, Ny. Berecka’s work has appeared in periodicals such as the American Literary Review, The Christian Century and The Texas Review as well as anthologies such as St. Peter’s B-List (Ava Maria Press). Carstensen has a first-place award-winning chapbook, In the Temple of Shining Mercy (Iron Horse Review Press, 2017). A recipient of annual poetry awards from Many Mountains Moving and So to Speak: a Feminist Journal of Language and Art, Carstensen’s work has received finalist recognition fromTerrain.org, Calyx and the Baltimore Review and can be found in BorderSenses, Atlanta Review, Southern Humanities Review and many others. Murphy’s poetry book American History (Slough Press) and the co-edited Stone Renga (Tail Feather Press) were published in 2017. He also has a chapbook, Horizon to Horizon (Strike Syndicate, 2015) and two CDs—“Live from Del Mar College” (2015) and “Slams from the Pit” (2014). All three poets are members of the Corpus Christi People’s Poetry Festival with Berecka being named as its Poet Laureate in 2017. The poetry reading is free and open to the public.
